HISTORY
THE YEAR IS 2020
'RELICS: A New World Rises’ is the brainchild of Perth duo Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler, mates from high school who shared a childhood love of LEGO®.
After winning the second season of Channel 9’s smash hit reality competition show LEGO® Masters in 2020, they were commissioned by WA arts organisation FORM to create an exhibition at The Goods Shed gallery in Perth. With a totally blank canvas, they set out to push beyond the conventional limitations of storytelling with LEGO®. The resultant exhibition, titled ‘RELICS: Bricks of the New World’ was a runaway success.
With interest from venues across Australia, Jackson and Alex set out to create a full touring exhibition to meet the demand - RELICS: A New World Rises was born. Two years in the making and rebuilt from the ground up, this exhibition is a full immersive art experience that's equal parts nostalgic and thought-provoking. Co-creator Jackson Harvey describes it as "the love child between an antique shop, The LEGO® Movie, and Blade Runner."
RELICS: A New World Rises smashed attendance records in its debut season- becoming the most successful ticketed show at the South Australian Museum in all of its 167-year history. It has since gone on to travel across Oceania, igniting curiosity and inspiration in audiences of all ages.
